In the autumn of 1945, as Beijing celebrated its liberation after eight years of enemy occupation, hostile forces launched a surprise siege, plunging the ancient capital back into darkness. Underground operative Su Ming and his fiancée Zhou Zhan, a newspaper editor, had planned to meet at the bell tower to transfer critical anti-Japanese supplies, but Zhou was captured by enemy troops. Trapped under a citywide curfew, Su must navigate the dangerous night streets to rescue his lover and safeguard the top-secret intelligence, unaware that a larger conspiracy targeting their resistance cell looms over the city they had just reclaimed.
