Jiangyang City is besieged by enemy troops, with all male soldiers killed in battle. The remaining women—young mistress Lu Yuan, accused of “killing her husband” by her mother-in-law Yu Lei; maid Dong Wei hiding a family feud; opera actress Yang Yunshan labeled “disastrous” due to her background—were once estranged by feudal norms. But when the enemy smashes the city gate, they trade rouge for armor: Lu Yuan shares her late husband’s military books to defend the city; Yu Lei uses ancestral medicine to save the wounded Dong Wei; Dong Wei risks her life to lure away enemy forces; Yang Yunshan uses opera troupe mechanisms to blow up the enemy’s grain reserves… Once “the forgotten ones,” they become Jiangyang’s backbone in blood and fire—proving that “widowhood” is not the end, and “becoming one’s own sword” is the cruelest counterattack against the fate that “women can’t hold a city.”
