Lin Xiaoman, a struggling third-rate screenwriter, can't even afford his rent. One day, he stumbles upon a mysterious Credit Knife Man in an old cotton shirt, who shoves an ancient script book into his hands: "This book can make your stories come true, but every story costs something 'important' from your future." Lin tries writing about a down-and-out programmer's counterattack—surprisingly, Zhang next door gets a promotion and brings him milk tea! But when he miswrites "the programmer turns into a cat after overtime," Zhang really becomes an orange cat chasing him for fish snacks. Just as Lin gains popularity to write a hit script, the Credit Knife Man demands he trade the affection of Su Wan, his secret crush and publishing editor, for the "hit qualification." Between his long-cherished dream and Su Wan, who's just started to notice him, Lin realizes this "script credit" was never free.
