Female journalist Su Xiao ventures alone into an ancient village in southern Yunnan to investigate illegal mining in an ecological reserve, only to uncover the villagers' closely guarded secret—the "man-eating giant lizard." Claw marks in the cattle pen at midnight, forester Chen Mo's repeated obstruction, and even the "persuasion tea" from the village chief all hint at something amiss. When she sneaks into the mountains to gather evidence, she's indeed pounced on by the giant lizard. Just in time, Chen Mo shows up to save her and pulls out a faded photo: it turns out the lizard is a cub released by the reserve a decade ago, which once saved Chen Mo from a wolf pack. The villagers' so-called "man-eating" tale is merely a cover-up for a conspiracy—someone wants to log the forest and drive the lizard away...
