In a famine, Chen Dahu, a fat man mocked by villagers as a "food waste", suddenly spends all his savings on saline-alkali wasteland outside the village. Everyone calls him crazy—why bother when starving? Even his childhood sweetheart Axiu weeps to persuade him to stop. But no one knows he hides his father’s "Secret Agriculture Manual", which holds the key to diverting springs and improving soil. He plows daily with dozens of pounds of tools, his hands covered in broken blisters, until he revives the barren land with mountain spring water. Just as golden rice waves rise, landlord Wang Bapi arrives to seize the farmland, claiming the wasteland is his. Dahu clutches the old book, staring at the knives before him: Can he defend his land—the village’s last hope? Will Axiu stand by him?
