When death row inmate Lin Chuan is about to be executed, he suddenly binds to the "King-Making System"—given only a rusty chopper and a mission: "Break out of death row and reach the imperial palace in seven days". To survive, he uses the broken knife to fight guards, make a female assassin laugh, trick a cultivation elder into crying, and even swap the villain's "ancient divine artifact" with a sugar figure, filled with humor. However, he accidentally binds a "life-and-death contract" with the cold and beautiful female constable Su Wanqing. While evading the system's "death countdown" and bickering with Su Wanqing (yet secretly falling for her), Lin Chuan gradually realizes: behind the system's demand to "kill to be king" is actually a call to "live to be his own king".
