The short play "A Bowl's Beginning, an Empire's Ending" tells the story of Zhu Chongba, a teenager who loses his family in a disaster at the end of the Yuan Dynasty and sets out on a journey for survival with only a begging bowl. From a wandering orphan to joining the rebel army, he relies on his extraordinary courage and broad mind to make生死之交 (sworn brothers) in the flames of war, outwit enemy conspiracies, and gradually rise from an ordinary soldier to a leading general. Facing official intrigues and battlefield crises, he always stays true to his original aspiration of "ensuring the people have food to eat," eventually overthrowing the tyrannical Yuan Dynasty and founding a new dynasty. The bowl, carrying suffering and hope, witnesses the legend of a dynasty rising from humble beginnings, composing an inspirational epic of a poor boy逆袭 (rising against the odds) to become the founding emperor of a nation.
