Burnt-out industrial designer Lin Xiao, who’s been pulling 996 shifts until his hair thinned out, accidentally gains the ability to shuttle between his soul-crushing modern workshop and a bustling 1950s state-owned factory. He uses his modern design expertise to help workers improve production processes and solve technical troubles, forging a deep friendship with straightforward, passionate workshop director Zhang Jianguo, while fending off ruthless clients and toxic workplace politics in his own era. As his cross-world trips grow more frequent, he discovers the fates of both eras are tightly intertwined, and a long-buried old accident is gradually coming to light—forcing him to find his true place in either world.
