Azhi, a young girl who has guarded her family's rhododendron forest for years, was told by her dying grandfather that a scholar took shelter here a decade prior, leaving half a jade pendant engraved with "Jun" and promising to return to marry her when the flowers bloomed. Every spring, Azhi waits clutching the other half of the pendant. This year, as the mountains blaze with azaleas, a suited man arrives tracking the jade. He reveals his great-grandfather was the scholar, who died in battle long ago and never came back. Staring at the blooming flowers, Azhi is left torn between letting go and holding onto the long-awaited promise.
