In the bustling 1920s Shanghai Bund, Su Mengqing, a cabaret dancer at Paramount Ballroom, holds two dreams: to be a top dancer and save money for her sick mother in the countryside. She navigates among tycoons, journalists and gangsters, only to find the "honest" rich man she met is part of a business arranged marriage scheme—her savings are embezzled and her mother passes away.
