Single mother Chen Guilan raises her daughter Lin Xiaoman alone by running a street breakfast stall. Local thug Zhang San has long extorted protection money from her, and Chen always swallows her pride to keep her business going. Ten-year-old Xiaoman, seeing her mother pushed around and her wrists red from being grabbed, throws herself into her mother's arms and swears "Mom, I'll protect you for a lifetime". Years later, Xiaoman becomes a local police officer after studying hard.
