In 1978, at a state-owned factory compound, Lin Xiaoman, an educated youth sent to the countryside, is forced to tutor Zhou Xiaotang, the "little tyrant" of the factory director's family—this kid even stuffs kerosene lamps into her homework and steals erasers from the supply and marketing cooperative.
