Su Wanwan, a modern qipao designer, accidentally triggers an ancient jade on "Shuanghua"—a replica of her grandmother's old qipao—and travels back to 1937 Shanghai, taking the identity of Lin Manqiu, her grandmother's late best friend and a qipao shop owner. Gu Jingshen, her grandmother's former lover, is hunting Lin Manqiu with a shard of "Shuanghua", convinced she betrayed their revolutionary comrades. While using modern design skills to run the shop and dodge Gu's suspicion, Wanwan discovers he's an underground agent infiltrating the enemy camp, and the real Lin Manqiu sacrificed herself to protect him. To her shock, her grandmother's diary reveals "Shuanghua" was Gu's engagement gift, and the "betrayal" was a deadly misunderstanding. Just as Gu realizes Wanwan isn't Lin Manqiu, Japanese soldiers surround the shop. Wanwan must choose between saving Gu or returning to her time.
