Su Wan, a cultural relic restorer, meets archaeologist Gu Shen through a Warring States jade inscribed with the phrase “Deep love dooms”. She accidentally discovers that these four characters are a thousand-year-old curse of the Gu family—each generation’s most affectionate member dies before turning thirty. Gu Shen tried to hide his love in the jade’s cracks, but Su Wan finds his secret list filled with “things to do with her before I turn thirty, like visiting all museums”. Determined to break the curse, they search for the jade’s other half. When they find the fragment carved with “Loyalty prolongs life” in Dunhuang’s Mogao Caves, Gu Shen is hit by falling rocks while protecting Su Wan, collapsing in front of the sand-covered murals. Clutching the camel doll he bought for Su Wan, his breath fades. Suddenly, the jade glows red—was there an unspoken second half to the prophecy?
