Qing Yu, daughter of a general, witnesses her entire family’s massacre. When she falls into the River of Oblivion with a grudge, she meets Mo Yuan—the judge who has guarded her for nine lifetimes. He is chained to the river for a millennium, atoning for a wrongful reincarnation judgment involving her. To avenge her family and clear her name, they make a "Soul-Transcending Pact": she helps him transcend 81 vengeful spirits, and he aids her in revisiting past lives to find the killer. But as the spirits’ memories unlock, Qing Yu discovers the massacre’s truth is tied to Mo Yuan’s past—and his secret for guarding her all these years is more heart-wrenching than revenge itself.
