Lin Chuan, the "coward" in the old alley, makes a living selling bran cakes to support his wife A Sui and sickly son Xiao An, living a life even dogs despise. When A Sui rejects the landlord's son's forced marriage, she's framed for stealing the mansion's pearls—stripped and paraded by shrews, and Xiao An is pushed into the river by servants, left痴呆. A Sui, unable to bear the humiliation, throws herself into a well that night. Just as neighbors wait to see him "kneel and beg for mercy," Lin Chuan takes out a dusty "Jinyiwei Qianhu" waist token from under the bed—he is Gu Zhao, the "First Blade of the Northern Prosecution Division" who was hunted down ten years ago for exposing a eunuch's rebellion! He lived incognito to survive, but now his family's blood makes him see red. However, when he raises his knife to the landlord's son, he finds an "East Factory Eagle纹" embroidered on the man's sleeve—turns out A Sui's "trouble" was a trap aimed at him all along!
