Zhou Xiaoyang, a rebellious modern rich kid, is bound by a mysterious "Ancient-Modern Transformation System" after smashing his dad's office—he must complete three era missions: growing wheat for work points in 1960s rural China, selling jeans with his parents at a 1990s street stall, and studying classics to pass the scholar exam in ancient times. From being chased by his grandma for breaking a jar to using modern math to figure out the best stall time, then fixing his ancient dad's tofu mill with physics knowledge, Xiaoyang complains about the system while realizing his parents' past hardships: his dad once smiled through a hand injury from construction work to save money, his mom picked up skewers from the ground after a drunkard knocked over her stall. When he finishes, the system reveals the truth—his parents spent all their savings to let him "see our youth." Xiaoyang hugs his parents, sobbing, "I'll never defy you again."
