Hard to Find Xiaoman

After five years of drifting in Shanghai, 32-year-old Lin Xiaoman and her boyfriend Chen Mo have finally saved enough startup funds for a tiny community bookstore, eagerly looking forward to a "contented, just-right life". But one crisis follows another: the landlord suddenly hikes the rent to force them out, and Chen Mo’s father is diagnosed with a critical illness and hospitalized. At first they blame each other, complaining about fate’s unfairness, until one midnight they squat at the alley entrance, eating cold steamed buns and reflecting on their lives. Gradually, they come to understand: there is no 100% perfection in the mortal world. Holding each other’s hands through the mess and piecing together tiny bits of warmth is their own unique "Xiaoman".
