Shen Yan, a frontier general, rescues Su Zhao, an orphan carrying a relic of the overthrown dynasty, while renovating a frontier beacon tower. The two initially harbor mutual suspicion: Shen, a general of the new imperial court, is disillusioned with the court’s indifference to ancient cultural sites, while Su mistakenly believes he is a government spy sent to seize her family’s cultural heritage. When rebels plot to blow up the beacon to loot antiquities, they put aside their differences and defend the millennia-old ruin with their lives, eventually forging their shared faith and heartfelt bond beneath the glorious mountains and rivers.
