Top sprinter Lin Chuan received news that his mother was trapped in a flash flood right before the national finals. He gave up the race to rescue her, but delayed treatment left his mother partially paralyzed—and he was blacklisted by his agency for “abandoning the competition,” reduced to a construction worker.
