Down-on-her-luck art restorer Su Wan takes on a forgotten Qing Dynasty portrait of a lady. When her fingers brush the two characters "Shi Jun" (literally "I know you") on the painting's corner, she is instantly transported back to an ancient Jiangnan bookshop 100 years ago, meeting the downcast scholar Gu Yan who penned those words. She shuttles between the present and the past repeatedly, trying to save Gu Yan from his fatal accident decades ago, but gradually falls for this gentle yet stubborn young man. Every one of their time-crossed meetings is fleeting, and when she finally finds a way to stay together permanently, she discovers she has long been the century-old secret hidden within the painting.
