Illustrator Lin Xi, set to marry her programmer boyfriend Shen Yi of three years, receives a heartless breakup letter on the eve of their proposal. Crushed, she learns from a friend that Shen Yi was diagnosed with a rare disease and left secretly to avoid dragging her down. Xi tracks him to a border town and finds a silent Shen Yi who can hardly express himself. Facing the harsh parting despite deep love, they understand the irony of the line ‘Don’t believe the bitterness of parting in this world’. Years later, Xi publishes an illustrated collection named after this line based on their story.
