Su Wan, a bloodthirsty fox spirit whose clan was massacred, disguises herself as a weak illegitimate daughter to marry Gu Yanzhi—the feared "demon-slaying" lord of the Demon Hunting Division—in order to uncover the truth. On their wedding night, just as she reveals her fox tail to assassinate him, Gu Yanzhi grabs her tail tip with a smile: "Your father entrusted you to me ten years ago. He never said you'd be this mischievous." It turns out Gu Yanzhi had long seen through her disguise and holds a blood letter from her father—revealing the massacre was a betrayal by the Demon Hunting Division. Amidst their "contract marriage" charade, Gu Yanzhi secretly eliminates her enemies. When Su Wan finally raises her sword against the mastermind, Gu Yanzhi steps in front of her: "I'll avenge you with you, but your hands won't get dirty."
