In the studio of Lin Shen (played by Han Dong), an antique restorer, there has always been a withered hairpin engraved with "Gardenias bloom year after year"—it's the "unfinished promise" his grandfather entrusted to him on his deathbed. Su Xiaotang (played by Wang Zichun), an intern reporter, comes to him to investigate her grandmother's "old days", only to find that her grandmother's gardenia hair ribbon matches Lin Shen's hairpin perfectly! It turns out that half a century ago, Lin's grandfather and Su's grandmother missed each other due to opera troupe feuds. Now, fate has brought their descendants together because of the "gardenia". But Lin Shen has long closed his heart due to childhood trauma, while Su Xiaotang insists on "crashing" into his world like a gardenia—will they continue the regret of the previous generation or write a new happy ending? The patterns on the hairpin are waiting for them to uncover the answer.
