In the chaotic era of fleeing famine, human lives are as fragile as grass. Orphan Lin Xiaoman accidentally activates her family's old ancestral shoe repair machine. What was once considered useless becomes a lifeline in troubled times—repairing a pair of shoes can get three days' food, mending armor can exchange for survival chances, and even locate camps of survivors. She gains a foothold with it but is drawn into gang disputes coveting the machine's secret. While avoiding pursuit and protecting refugees, she gradually discovers the machine carries traces of a past life.
