Lin Xiaoman has run a bike repair shop at the old alley for ten years—crew cut, work clothes, and a high school lace skirt pressed at the bottom of her toolbox—that was her mother’s last gift before passing away, and the "fear" she’s hidden for half her life. Photographer Gu Shiyan found her for his project "Invisible Tenderness in the City" and accidentally found the skirt. In that moment, he caught the panic in the girl’s red ear tips. Since then, he always comes to "repair his camera," helps her pick up the skirt blown away by the wind, hands her a jasmine-scented coat on a rainy night, and even secretly alters her old skirt into a short one suitable for repairing bikes... When Xiaoman finally dares to squat in front of the shop tightening screws in the altered skirt, Gu Shiyan holds his camera and smiles: "What you hid wasn’t a skirt, but the heart that was waiting for me to take it."
