Chen Nuo, a modern office worker, travels back to the Tang Dynasty after staying up late binge-watching dramas. He wakes up only to be drafted into the army, sure he'll die as cannon fodder at Yanmen Pass—until he saves Jiang Li, the empress disguised as a commoner investigating border issues, using modern first-aid skills. Forced to be her "personal military doctor," Chen Nuo deals with Jiang Li: a ruthless "iron lady" in court who secretly fears the dark from a childhood palace coup. He complains that "the empress is harder to handle than a client" while using modern gadgets like heating pads and instant noodles to break through her walls. When northwest rebels besiege the city, Chen Nuo's guerrilla tactics save Jiang Li, but ministers accuse him of "bewitching the ruler." As he faces execution, Jiang Li publicly pulls out an imperial edict—"I will marry him!" This farce of a "soldier marrying the empress" hides a cross-time mutual devotion between them.
