Shen Yan, a powerful official, is rising to power rapidly. His eldest daughter Shen Qing, staying in the capital, regards the fame and fortune as a cage—fed up with political intrigues, infighting and even flattery and hostility from her father's promotions, she only wants to apply for exile to a remote harsh fiefdom for a carefree life. She tries all means: acting silly to beg her father, throwing tantrums to avoid social events, from coquetry to threats. But Shen Yan takes her as childish and rejects every request. Until he spots hidden enemies targeting the Shen family, and sees exhaustion and fear in his daughter's eyes, he finally relents for her "absurdity" after struggling between his career and affection.
