Su Wan, an ancient book restorer, accidentally receives a box of old letters from the Republic of China. The letters hold a promise between Shen Zhixia, a young girl, and Lin Shen, a progressive youth—they would marry after the war. But Lin Shen suddenly "died", and Shen Zhixia spent her life alone with unsent letters. Tracing the clues in the letters, Su Wan discovers Lin Shen faked his death to protect the underground organization. In the夹层 of an old letter, she finds Lin Shen's late-life address—he has been living in seclusion in a Jiangnan town, never stopping looking for Shen Zhixia for seventy years. Regrets across a century and uncooled affection are all hidden in these silent old papers.
