Shen Yan, a seemingly corrupt and arrogant royal servant, is seen as a threat by the newly crowned young emperor due to his suspicious actions. When a coup assassination at the palace banquet puts the emperor in danger, Shen Yan drops his 'treacherous' facade to risk his life protecting the emperor and expose the traitorous officials. In fact, he is the spy appointed by the emperor to investigate powerful corrupt officials, and his 'corrupt' image is all a disguise. His words 'I won't kill the emperor' are a subversive declaration of loyalty. Evolving from suspicion to cooperation, the emperor and Shen Yan start a series of hilarious yet tense joint days in the imperial court.
