Three years after the floods, the hometown remains a flooded island. Young bamboo artisan Lin Xiaoman, who has saved enough from working in cities, is about to leave. But when she sees an elderly villager injured by a collapsed bamboo shed, she recalls her ancestors' wisdom of using bamboo to fight floods. Ignoring neighbors' doubts, she leads villagers to build a floating bamboo settlement for flood defense and living. Facing funding shortages, technical difficulties and accidents, their persistent efforts finally create floating bamboo houses and bring hope to the submerged hometown.
