When Shen Yan, the new emperor of Daqi Dynasty, ascends the throne, he immediately becomes a puppet of the powerful minister Xie An—his power is stripped, even his empress selection is controlled. On the surface, he’s submissive, but secretly he’s gathering hidden guards and old loyalists, determined to take back his throne. But when Xie Zhaoning, Xie An’s daughter, offers to deliver secret letters for him, he’s thrown into confusion: Is she truly helping him, or is this another trap set by her father?
