To avoid being framed by powerful ministers, young Emperor Li Zhao voluntarily abdicates the throne to his uncle, only to be exiled to the frontier under the pretext of "guarding the mausoleum". On the day of departure, Su Wantang, the late emperor's widow who has lived in seclusion for three years and is as cold as frost, kneels at the city gate with the late emperor's memorial tablet—she insists on going to the desolate northwest with him. Along the sandstorm-swept road, Li Zhao discovers the scars hidden under Su's plain clothes and the late emperor's secret edict she guards with her life; while Su realizes that this "foolish abdicator" is actually plotting to take back the court. They go from awkwardness to mutual support, but when war erupts on the frontier and the powerful ministers' schemes unfold—can they protect each other in the yellow sand and reclaim their world?
