During the warlord era, the cold-hearted warlord Li Lei (played by Gangtie Rourou) rescues Liu Lange, the top actress of an opera troupe, from her enemies late at night—unaware that she hides a knife for revenge: Lange’s father and brother died in the artillery fire of Li Lei’s men. To avenge her family, Lange stays by his side voluntarily, but in their daily interactions, she discovers the tenderness beneath the “ruthless killer”: he silently guards her backstage when she sings, and uses his body to shield her from bullets during battles. When the chance for revenge finally comes, Lange finds out that Li Lei has long known her identity—and even secretly took down her enemies for her… In the smoke of war, is the rouge a bone-deep hatred, or a fatal love?
