Li Muqing, a down-and-out scholar in the world of *Liaozhai*, saves an injured white fox and gains the "Soul-Binding Flag"—a relic sealing ten thousand vengeful spirits. Among them are A Ruan, his past-life lover who died young, and the residual soul of an evil Taoist who massacred a village. To break A Ruan’s soul lock, he must travel between mortal and spirit realms to help spirits fulfill their unfinished wishes. But the evil Taoist’s soul keeps tempting him to refine spirits into malevolent energy. Torn between his obsession to save A Ruan and the threat of darkness, can Li Muqing hold onto his本心 in Liaozhai’s eerie fog?
