Lin Mo, a "wastrel fisherman" shunned by his entire fishing village, drifts aimlessly through life—until his father falls gravely ill and his only boat is destroyed, pushing his family to the edge. Desperate, he stumbles on a hidden natural oyster reef during a perilous seashore trip, uncovering a one-of-a-kind fishing skill no one else knows. Su Xiao, the sharp seafood shop owner in the village, goes from mocking him to helping, and their tense dynamic slowly blossoms into romance. Rival fishermen, jealous of his success, plot sabotage again and again, but Lin Mo, fueled by his grit to "go against the tide", outsmarts every trap. In the end, he leads the whole village to prosperity, earning the respect of everyone as the village's seafaring hero.
