Gu Jingshen, a cold-blooded investment banking elite, collapses from a stomach bleed due to overwork and is taken in by Lin Xiaoman, who runs a wonton shop downstairs. Their paths, once parallel, collide when Gu is assigned to a downtown redevelopment project—he has to demolish the “Xiaoman Wonton Shop,” which Lin has guarded for ten years as a memory of her late mother. Torn between his ingrained business rationality and the warmth of the wonton shop’s steam, Gu struggles between “demolishing” and “protecting.” Lin, with her hot soup, mortal烟火 (ordinary warmth), and unyielding stubbornness, slowly melts the “goal-only” ice in his heart: the most precious thing isn’t the loneliness of the summit, but having someone to hold onto the warmth of life together.
