In the 1970s, Wang Yunfei, a bold and straightforward urban girl, marries into a rural family. Soon after moving in, she notices something odd: her mother-in-law's big yellow dog always follows her, the reed chicken pecks her衣角, and even the orange cat rummages through her bags! It turns out these pets are "undercovers" sent by her mother-in-law to catch her "breaking rural rules." But Wang Yunfei refuses to back down—she wins over the dog with roasted sweet potatoes, bribes the chicken with rice scraps, and even teaches the cat to catch mice to amuse her mother-in-law. Just as the mother-in-law thinks she's "taming" her daughter-in-law, she realizes she's the one being moved by the pets and Yunfei's sincerity. The "surveillance"? It's just her worry that the city girl can't survive rural life. A hilarious showdown between a fiery wife and pet undercovers unfolds the warmest family healing story of the 1970s.
