Town reporter Lin Xiaoman returns to a remote mountain village to investigate a series of disappearances, only to find villagers avoiding the legend of "the mountain demon claiming lives". Her childhood friend Zhou Shenlin suddenly appears, helping her search for clues while repeatedly warning her to "stay away from the mountain temple". It's not until Xiaoman finds a wooden plaque with her name carved on it behind the temple that she uncovers the secret from twenty years ago: she was supposed to be the villagers' "sacrificial offering" to the mountain demon, saved secretly back then, and the current disappearances are a revenge plot by the "survivor" to settle old scores.
