In the bustling 1930s Shanghai, Su Ruanyu (played by Wuyan Yihe), the top actress of an opera troupe, draws massive crowds with her *Peony Pavilion* performance—yet she hides a knife for revenge: her father’s murderer is Gu Zhaozhou (played by Huang Jingzhou), the powerful young marshal ruling Shanghai. She infiltrates his life on purpose, but gradually falls for his tenderness: he takes a bullet for her, redeems her from the troupe, and even plans to marry her. However, the arsenic in her rouge box trembles uncontrollably when he gives her a jade hairpin. When the truth of revenge is exposed, will love resolve the blood feud, or will their true hearts be devoured by hatred in this soft red dust?
