Thirty-year-old corporate slave Qin Jialin, working overtime late into the night, red-eyed at the photo with Zhang Zhiqing in his high school yearbook—that’s his 12-year-old regret: in the summer of senior year, he mistakenly thought Zhang Zhiqing had “fallen for someone else” and broke up impulsively. Later, he learned she’d distanced herself to care for her terminally ill mother, but by the time he wanted to make amends, Zhang Zhiqing had already gone abroad.
