Eight-year-old Lin Xiaotang is a “bottom-of-the-class student” who always fails exams, but no one knows he’s actually a thousand-year-old tribulation immortal—one final trial away from ascending. His trial? Protecting Su Xiaoli, the reincarnation of his past-life savior Su Wan and now his cute deskmate. When evil cultivators emerge to steal the “spiritual marrow” in Xiaoli for immortality, Xiaotang hides his magic to fend off attacks while pretending to be a kid—dealing with parent-teacher meetings, stealing snacks to get close to Xiaoli. But when the evil cultivator’s fatal strike comes, just as Xiaotang is about to reveal his identity, Xiaoli whispers: “I remember you. In the past life, you used a candy wrapper to shield me from rain.” Turns out, his real trial was never “guarding”—it was “being remembered by someone from his past.”
