Su Wanwan, the daughter of the Minister of Rites, throws a xiuqiu (a silk ball used in ancient Chinese marriage customs) to choose her husband, desperate to refuse the emperor's arranged marriage. To her shock, the xiuqiu lands on Gu Zhao—a eunuch sent to deliver the emperor's edict.
