Su Wan, an ancient book restorer, accidentally time-travels while repairing the ancient painting *A Curtain of Romance*, becoming Shen Qingci, a legitimate general’s daughter forced into a political marriage in the marquis residence. Beneath the calm lies a secret: the former mistress died suspiciously, and poems in the painting hide clues to a former dynasty’s famine case. Su Wan navigates court struggles and marriage crises, meeting Gu Yan, a mysterious investigator tracing the old case. They evolve from testing each other to solving puzzles together, only to find that her time-travel is tied to the ancient saying "A curtain of romance mistakenly mirrors water" — and her existence has broken the predetermined fate.
