Zhu Zhu, a struggling actress, is forced to be a stand-in for A-list star Niu Niu due to their uncanny resemblance. Trying just to get by, she breaks the “shadow” label with her sincerity—she refuses a double for Niu Niu’s high-wire scene, finishing it even with a bleeding knee; when dealing with anti-fans, she doesn’t argue but squats down to hand a cup of hot water to the aunt who insults her. Unexpectedly, these unscripted acts make her an instant hit, and even Lu Ting, Niu Niu’s wealthy boyfriend, notices her: “You’re different—your eyes have light she doesn’t.” When Niu Niu quits over a diva fit, Zhu Zhu’s replacement performance goes viral. Now, with Lu Ting’s confession, Niu Niu’s jealousy, and a leading role offer, Zhu Zhu realizes: a stand-in isn’t about copying—it’s about being a more vivid version of yourself than the original.
