Modern office worker Lin Mo accidentally travels to ancient times as a stand-in son-in-law of an immortal poet, and is bound by a marriage contract with Su Qingyuan, the daughter of the Minister of Rites. Wanting only to roam and write masterpieces, he proposes to call off the marriage, but is challenged by Su Qingyuan who also wants to escape the family's political marriage. Two 'marriage-phobic' people start a tug-of-war: from petty tricks to mutual understanding, they join forces against court villains coveting the poet's identity. In the power struggle whirlpool, they finally realize: calling off the marriage is easy, but falling in love is hard.
