Lin Xiaochuan, a no-name assistant to A-list actor Gu Chengyu, has spent three years doing menial jobs—while secretly writing scripts. His dream isn’t to be a sidekick, but to stand in the spotlight as a leading man. When Gu turns down a low-budget indie drama, Xiaochuan musters the courage to audition, only to be mocked by the director: “A sidekick thinks he can play the lead?” To make matters worse, Gu takes the second male lead role for a pay cut, sabotaging Xiaochuan at every turn. But Xiaochuan refuses to back down: he pours his soul into the underdog character, making the director cry during a scene, and even Gu starts to notice him. Just as things are looking up, a rumor spreads online: “Lin Xiaochuan stole the lead role through connections,” with “proof” that he plagiarized the script.
