Rural girl Lin Xiaoman quits her city job and hurries back to the village, determined to guard her grandfather's homestead—the place where Grandpa repeatedly said, 'Keep the root' before he died. But as soon as she pushes open the door, she runs into her ex-boyfriend Chen Mo in a suit, leading a demolition team. Now a developer's manager, he's ordered to tear down the old homestead. On one side are Grandpa's last wish and the villagers' trust (they held her hands and begged her to stay); on the other is the man who once said, 'I'll stay with you forever.' Xiaoman grabs Grandpa's old hoe and blocks the yard gate: 'Chen Mo, if you dare to demolish today, step over me first!' Meanwhile, Chen Mo has his father's critical illness notice in his pocket—his sick father, the developer's boss, is forcing him to finish the project to get money for life-saving treatment. Two lovers stand on opposite sides of interest: will they keep the 'root' or bow to reality? Can the soil of the old homestead stay?
