Lin Xiaoman, a solo designer, just bought an old apartment in the city center, only to face a string of oddities—her packages are torn apart, her hydrangeas are broken at night, and surveillance even captures a figure in a gray shirt lingering. When she catches Uncle Zhou from the opposite building staring at her home with a telescope, the old man’s eyes redden: “That’s my home for forty years; there’s still my late wife’s knitted socks in the drawer.” But when Zhou’s son is caught sneaking around and prying her lock, Xiaoman realizes the old man’s “eyeing” is kindness—he’s afraid his son will take the savings his wife hid in the old wardrobe to pay debts, and even more afraid Xiaoman will lose her only “home” like he once did. A guard over “home” turns two strangers into each other’s shelter.
