The protagonist's family has guarded the village's crops for generations by training hunting dogs. However, the whole village, believing rumors that the dogs attract wild boars, ostracizes them, forcing the protagonist to drive away their most capable hunting dog. Days later, a wild boar herd really comes down from the mountains, destroying all the village's crops overnight and leaving villagers in heavy debt. Full of regret, they kneel in front of the protagonist's door begging for help. The protagonist, facing former villagers who once spurned him, struggles between kindness and resentment.
